In November 2023, the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico opened its doors. Since we were transiting through the city after arriving from São Paulo, we were curious to check it out.

Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico Location

As the name would suggest, the Novotel is located in Mexico City’s historic centre. It’s a strategic location and also works well if you have a stopover in the city, since the airport is around 20 – 30 minutes away via taxi, depending on traffic.  If you’re visiting the city to do some sightseeing, this would be a very good location to be based at. Unfortunately, our stopover was only 14 hours long, so we just wanted to grab something to eat and to get some rest, but if we visit the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico again, there’ll hopefully be more time to explore!

Arrival

We landed in Mexico City at around 16:30, but it took around two hours to clear security and get our bags. It meant we didn’t end up arriving at the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico until around 19:30. Fortunately, check-in was a quick affair and we quickly had our room keys.

Accor Status Recognition

Accor ALL Platinum status recognition was good. During the check-in process, I was informed that I’d received a room upgrade. I was also given a drinks voucher.

I’d booked a ‘standard’ room, and was given a one-level upgrade to a ‘superior’ room. Shortly after arriving in our room, a welcome gift was delivered. This was a very small slice of cake, as well as two sparkling waters. While not the most exciting welcome amenity I’d ever received, it was appreciated nonetheless. Especially the water after a long flight!

We were able to use our drinks voucher in the hotel bar, which is adjacent to the lobby area. When we asked what drinks were included, we were given a list. Essentially, the choice was either a soft drink, a beer, or a cocktail. We opted for a sangria and it was good!

The Room at the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico

Overall, I really liked our room and thought it had been well-designed. We had a corner room, which was nice. As you’d expect from a relatively new hotel, everything was in a very good condition, and the room was modern. I quite like the new Novotel design, and think it’s a considerable upgrade compared to the older room version.

The room itself has an interesting layout. As you enter, there’s a wardrobe, and then a semi-open plan bathroom. To the right, was the main bedroom. We had a corner room, and it was nice to have windows on two sides. Unfortunately, it was dark by the time we arrived, but I’m sure it feels very bright during the day.

Interestingly, there was no desk in the room. Instead, there was a small bench style sofa. This I’m not so sure about. If you were travelling on business, this wouldn’t be a particularly comfortable place to work from.

There was a Nespresso coffee machine, which is always appreciated. The hotel also left two 500ml still bottles of water.

The bathroom was really nice, and the shower was huge! Unfortunately, although the provided Rituals amenities were good, there was no hair conditioner, which seemed like a bit of an oversight. Apart from this, everything was good.

Bars and Restaurants at the Novotel Mexico City Centro Histórico

The hotel has a joint restaurant and bar area on the ground floor, adjacent to the lobby. The space was really nice and I liked the design, and I thought it incorporated some nice design elements.

As we were only staying at the hotel to get some sleep during our stopover, we didn’t get the chance to try out the restaurant. We did use the bar though for our welcome drink. The staff member who served us was really friendly, and the drink was good. The space wasn’t very well utilised though, and lacked any sort of atmosphere.

Recommended?

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a great location, and although traffic moves slowly in Mexico City, it’s a very convenient location if you’re in the city for tourism or have a layover. Accor ALL status was well recognised, and I was able to use my Accor Voyageur card to obtain a 10% discount on my stay.

The hotel has been well designed. Our room was a great size, the bathroom was excellent, and by the end of our short stay, we felt refreshed for our flight to Madrid!

The next time I’m travelling to Mexico City, I’ll definitely consider staying here again.
